About Me

Hello, I am Penelope Jackson, a high school senior with a passion for sustainable horticulture. This site is to show what I have done environmentally to help out my community and for my own curiosity.

For some background, my fascination with horticulture began with simple curiosity, when I went to Disney World and rode the “Living with the Land” attraction at Epcot. Throughout the experience, I observed an intriguing array of plant growth methods, ranging from soil-based cultivation to water-based hydroponics, and even unconventional upside-down planters. Witnessing the various techniques employed to nurture these plants and witness them thriving left me utterly fascinated.

After that, I decided to join my high school environmental club in my sophomore year then I have done many environmental volunteer projects and little did I know that these seemingly ordinary experiences would become the stepping stones to my true passion – sustainable horticulture.

Hydroponics mesmerized me from the very beginning, I just didn’t know it at the time. Setting up my own hydroponic systems in my dorm room at school and witnessing the young plants thrive in water was nothing short of breathtaking. The efficiency and ingenuity of this way of farming captivated my imagination, as I marveled at how it could help modern agriculture on a widespread scale.

As my knowledge in these sustainable practices deepened, so did my commitment to making a difference. As I stand at the start of my senior year, I'm eager to follow my passion to new heights. Beyond high school, I am pursuing further education in horticulture, hoping to immerse myself in research and collaboration with other students who, like me, want to study sustainability in agriculture.
